Row To School Benefit Celebration
When: Monday, October 4th, 2010 at 6:30-9PM
Where: At the home of Lois Robbins & Andrew Zaro in New York City
New York Rowing held an impressive cocktail party and celebration October 4th, 2010 to benefit our Row To School Scholarship Program. Row To School is a full competitive and needs-based scholarship for rowers in the 8th or 9th grades to New York Rowing’s Junior Program. Boys and girls on our composite team come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds for the unique opportunity to row together in our year round athletic program.
Over 50 guests spent the evening surrounded by cocktails, hors-d’oeuvres, and stimulating conversation. Honored guests included Richard Suarez and Derek Jeffry, two of our prominent Row To School Scholarship alumni who currently row at prestigious universities, MIT and Wesleyan respectively. They both made the time in their busy college careers to attend the event and share how the scholarship program was a positive experience that changed their lives.
Generous donations from our supporters raised nearly eighty thousand dollars for our program and we are so grateful for each and every dollar. We would like to again express our gratitude to each individual who made a contribution. Of course we also can’t forget to thank Lois Robbins and Andrew Zaro for opening up their home to host this worthy event.
Junior Fall 2010 Erg-A-Thon Fundraiser
When: November 5th, 2010 from 4PM-12AM
Where: New Rochelle Rowing Club Boathouse
New York Rowing holds a Junior Erg-A-Thon fundraiser for regatta fees, travel accommodations, and boat maintenance costs each year. This year, we would like to congratulation the 49 rowers who participated in the 2010 Erg-a-thon rowing a total of 800,000 meters. They raised $23,202 and we really appreciate their hard work and good spirits all the way through! Our Chairman had also issued a challenge ahead of time. For each rower that participated and raised at least $500, he would match the first $500 up to $10,000. To our delight, 24 rowers made that mark surpassing the maximum match amount. That makes the grand total of our Junior Fall 2010 fundraiser $33,202! Thank you so much to all the individual sponsors who contributed to our Junior rowers!
